Help:Part Versions
From partsregistry.org
The previous version of the Registry assumed that each part would have exactly one sequence. However, this may no longer be true. For example, a composite part may be constructed with BioBrick standard assembly or by direct synthesis. In one case there would be scars between the components and in the other there would be no scars. Yet, these versions of the part are almost identical.
We have added the idea of multiple versions of a part under the heading of Physical DNA. In that section, you will also find the locations of these parts in the DNA Repository and any sequence analyses that expected this part. [Randy]
