Lab Equipment
- Fireboy Plus - A replacement for a standard bunsen burner. Has it's own fuel supply and automatic shut-off settings.
- -80c Freezer - Long term storage of bacterial cell lines is made possible by storing the cells at -80 degrees celsius.
- Autoclave - Used for sterilization of lab bottles and waste, as well as heating agar before pouring plates.
Robotics
With hundreds of parts being distributed (and thousands contained in the registry) to teams around the globe, high-throughput automation is essential for the production of the kits sent out for the iGEM competition. We use 3 types of robots to automate highly repetitive steps of the production process that would prove highly time consuming (and error prone) for even the most disciplined technician.
- Autogen - Robot that automates the miniprep process to purify plasmid DNA at a high rate.
- Ep Motion 5075 - A robot located within iGEM HQ used to construct the 384-well source plates from which distribution copies are duplicated.
- PlateMate Plus - This robot takes utilizes the 384-well source plates made on the Ep Motion to produce distribution plates.
